Mighty artificial turf is a low-maintenance alternative to traditional grass lawn, but that doesn’t mean it’s no maintenance. Exposure to the elements and intensive activities on your synthetic turf will affect its performance. The good news is that artificial grass maintenance is easy and simple.
Regular maintenance is needed to help your artificial grass to stay in tip-top condition. Taking good care of your turf:
- Extends its life and keeps it in a healthy condition;
- Maximizes the field's performance and playability;
- Ensures that it's safe for people to walk on or play on;
- Preserves your lawn's appearance and lessens artificial grass discoloration.
- DO keep your lawn free from pollutants and debris.
- DO keep motorized vehicles off the artificial grass.
- DO repair damages as soon as possible.
- DON'T have any combustible heat sources on your lawn such as cigarettes and fireworks.
- DON'T brush the surface too often or on high-temperature days.
- DON'T let sharp objects like pointy furniture legs or athletic cleats on your artificial turf.
- DON'T use harsh chemicals like bleach, herbicides or pesticides on your lawn.
- Remove paper, fruit pits and other dry waste with a vacuum.
- Use a broom to gently remove branches, leaves, and other accumulated debris every two weeks.
- When your turf is covered in ice or snow, brush it with a broom or brush. If the snow is deep, a shovel works well to remove it.
- Pave quartz sand and rubber particles of the artificial grass with a specific rake.
- Cool down your artificial grass with a hose in hot summer to keep it comfortable for sports players.
- Drinks, blood and other spilt stains – Use a soapy mixture and a piece of cloth over the stained spot.
- Oily stains – Apply perchloroethylene or acetone to the stain with a cloth or sponge.
- Stubborn stains - Mix detergent and water into a solution and use a sponge to rub the solution into the stain. Once you have scrubbed the stain out, wash the detergent out of the grass with cold water.
- Chewing gum and other sticky stains - Use a putty knife or apply ice to it to freeze it and remove it.
- Pet urine – Immediately rinse the areas where your pet relieves him or herself. A solution of diluted vinegar can clean away any lingering odors.
- Rain, snow, sleet or hail can deplete infill levels on all types of synthetic turf. You can refresh and replenish the infill with quartz sand and rubber particles.
- A seam rupture occurs when seams binding synthetic turf together break down, leaving a barren spot. You can contact a turf installation company to repair seams, tears or burns that occur in the base beneath your turf.
